After a week that felt more like winter, it’s time to get out there and do something! There’s a little horse race you might have heard about at Belmont Park, music on Governors Island and art in Bushwick.
After American Pharoah (yes it’s spelled that way) won the Preakness last month, I planned on going to Belmont to see if he could take the Triple Crown. But the hassles of getting there and back, and the likelihood that I would still be watching on a TV screen, overtook the possibility of seeing history made and likely losing a few dollars.
Instead, I’ll be watching it with some friends and grilling. Since they’ve limited it to 90,000 people after last year’s debacle, you might be attending a viewing party as well. If you need some ideas on this Flashback Friday, there’s always pulled pork sandwiches with a spicy slaw.
Or grilled sausage and peppers.
Maybe you still have some mint simple syrup leftover from the Derby? Use it for a Mojito instead of the traditional Mint Julep or grab some local strawberries and make a homemade version of the amazing drink I had recently at Santina- with gin, black pepper and strawberry juice.
If you’re going to Governors Ball or Bushwick, there will be tons of options, so you’ll only have to decide where to eat and drink. Whatever you do, get out there and make the most of your weekend.
Next week on EDA … Nashville!
